Does Etsy take fees from shipping?
Yes. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee applies to the shipping amount charged to the buyer. Etsy Payments processing is also charged on the total sale amount. If you charge $25 for an item and $5 for shipping, Etsy calculates the core percentage fees on $30.
Free shipping does not remove the fee. It usually moves shipping into the item price. If a $25 item becomes a $30 free-shipping item, the Etsy percentage fees still apply to $30.
As of July 3, 2026, a $25 item with $5 shipping charged has $3.30 in standard US Etsy fees.
- Treat buyer-paid shipping as revenue for fee math.
- Treat seller-paid shipping as a cost for profit math.
- Compare buyer-paid shipping and free shipping before changing a listing.
How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale?
Etsy takes $9.95 from a standard $100 US sale with no Offsite Ads. The fee is $0.20 for listing renewal, $6.50 for the 6.5% transaction fee, and $3.25 for US payment processing at 3% + $0.25.
Offsite Ads changes the answer. At the 12% rate, the same $100 order costs $21.95 in total Etsy fees. At the 15% rate, it costs $24.95. That is why every Etsy seller should test the ad version before trusting a product's margin.
As of July 3, 2026, a $100 US Etsy order attributed to Offsite Ads costs $21.95 in fees at 12% or $24.95 at 15%.

How much does Etsy take from digital downloads?
Etsy digital downloads use the same core fee stack: $0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction, and payment processing. There is usually no shipping charged, so the fixed $0.20 listing fee and $0.25 processing fee hit small files hard.
A $5 US digital download costs $0.93 in standard Etsy fees, which is an 18.5% effective fee rate. A $20 digital download costs $2.35, which is an 11.8% effective fee rate. Bundles usually work better than tiny one-file listings.
As of July 3, 2026, a $3 US digital download costs $0.74 in standard Etsy fees before ads and tax on seller fees.

What does an Etsy seller actually keep?
An Etsy seller keeps the payout after Etsy fees, but that payout is not profit. True profit comes after product cost, shipping label cost, labor, packaging, ads, discounts, and any tax on seller fees. A $100 sale with $9.95 in Etsy fees can still have weak profit.
For example, a $100 item with $35 product cost and a $6 shipping label leaves $49.05 before labor, packaging, and ads. The same order through 15% Offsite Ads leaves $34.05 before those costs.
A $100 Etsy sale with $35 product cost and a $6 shipping label leaves $49.05 before labor, packaging, and ads when no Offsite Ads fee applies.

Are Etsy fees the same in every country?
No. The 6.5% transaction fee is the same core Etsy marketplace fee, but payment processing and Regulatory Operating Fees can differ by seller location. Do not use the US 3% + $0.25 processing input unless your Etsy Payments bank account is in the United States.
Etsy lists US processing at 3% + $0.25, UK processing at 4% + GBP 0.20, France at 4% + EUR 0.30, Italy at 4% + EUR 0.30, Spain at 4% + EUR 0.30, and India at 5% + INR 25.
As of July 3, 2026, the highest Regulatory Operating Fee listed by Etsy is Hungary at 1.97%.

Can you reduce what Etsy takes?
You cannot remove Etsy's core listing, transaction, and payment processing fees. The better move is to price around the required fees and avoid optional fee load that breaks the product. Offsite Ads deserves the first check because it can add 12% or 15% to one order.
If your shop is below Etsy's $10,000 prior-365-day Offsite Ads threshold and your margins fail at 15%, opting out is usually better than chasing ad-driven revenue. If your shop is above the threshold, build the 12% fee into your ad-attributed price math.
If an Etsy listing cannot survive standard fees, it will not survive Offsite Ads.
- Bundle low-priced digital downloads so fixed fees take a smaller share.
- List in your payout currency when practical to avoid Etsy's 2.5% currency conversion fee.
- Stop auto-renewing listings that do not earn back the $0.20 renewal fee.
- Use the calculator with 12% and 15% Offsite Ads before scaling ads.
Decision table
What to do when Etsy takes too much
Use this table after calculating the fee load on one real order.
| Situation | What it means | Best move |
|---|---|---|
| Standard fees are near 10% on a $100 order | The listing can work if product cost and labor still leave profit | Build the fee into price |
| A small digital item loses over 18% to fees | Fixed fees are taking too much of the sale | Bundle files into a higher-priced product |
| Shipping charged is ignored in your math | Fee and profit numbers are understated | Add shipping charged to order revenue |
| Offsite Ads pushes fees above 20% | Ad-driven sales need a separate profit check | Test 12% and 15% ad scenarios |
| Product cost plus fees leave little room | The price is too low or the item is too costly | Raise price or change the product |
| Non-US processing is left at US defaults | The calculator result is wrong for that seller | Enter country-specific processing fees |
Worked examples
Examples you can compare against your own numbers
Example 1: $25 item plus $5 shipping
Calculator inputs: itemPrice=25, shippingCharged=5, listingFee=0.20, transactionFee=6.5, processingFee=3, processingFixed=0.25, offsiteAdsFee=0.
| Order revenue | $30.00 | $25 item + $5 shipping charged |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | Flat listing renewal fee after the sale |
| Transaction fee | $1.95 | $30 x 6.5% |
| Payment processing | $1.15 | $30 x 3% + $0.25 |
| Total Etsy fees | $3.30 | 11.0% of order revenue |
| Seller keeps before costs | $26.70 | Before label cost, materials, labor, packaging, and ads |
Takeaway: Shipping charged to the buyer is part of the fee base. This $30 order has $3.30 in standard US Etsy fees.

| Shipping label cost | $6.00 | Seller-paid label cost |
| Left before labor and packaging | $49.05 | $100 - $9.95 - $35 - $6 |

FAQs
Questions people ask before making the decision
How much does Etsy take per sale in 2026?
For a standard US sale, Etsy takes $0.20 plus 6.5% of item price and shipping charged, plus 3% + $0.25 for payment processing. On a $100 order with no Offsite Ads, that equals $9.95 before the seller's own costs.
How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale?
Etsy takes $9.95 from a standard $100 US sale with no Offsite Ads. If the order is attributed to Offsite Ads, the total fee becomes $21.95 at the 12% ad rate or $24.95 at the 15% ad rate.
Does Etsy take fees from shipping?
Yes. Etsy's transaction fee applies to the shipping amount charged to the buyer, and Etsy Payments processing applies to the total sale amount. A $25 item with $5 shipping charged is treated as a $30 order for core US fee math.
What percentage does Etsy take from digital downloads?
The percentage depends on the download price because fixed fees hit small orders harder. A $5 US digital download has $0.93 in standard Etsy fees, which is 18.5% of the sale before ads and tax on seller fees.
Are Etsy Offsite Ads fees included in what Etsy takes?
Yes, but only for attributed orders. Etsy Offsite Ads add 12% or 15% on top of standard fees, with a $100 Offsite Ads fee cap on a single attributed order.
Is what Etsy pays out the same as profit?
No. Etsy payout is what remains after Etsy fees, but profit also subtracts product cost, labor, packaging, shipping label cost, ads, discounts, and other order costs. A $100 sale with $9.95 in Etsy fees and $41 in product plus label cost leaves $49.05 before labor and packaging.
Are Etsy fees the same in every country?
No. Payment processing differs by seller location, and some countries have Regulatory Operating Fees. US processing is 3% + $0.25, while UK processing is 4% + GBP 0.20 and India processing is 5% + INR 25.
Can I reduce what Etsy takes?
You cannot remove the core Etsy fees, but you can reduce fee damage. Bundle low-priced items, avoid currency conversion when practical, opt out of 15% Offsite Ads if eligible and unprofitable, and price products with the fee load included.
